BMW R80/7 with Garrard Grand Prix
1 years Mot
This is a BMW R80/7 TIC (Touring Integral Cockpit)
T and has matching Frame & Engine numbers. It was likely an ex Police bike
as it has the compartment in the petrol tank.
The Sidecar is a early 1963 British Garrard Grand
Prix Adult-Child. It has a braked wheel (not connected) and a safety bar. the
previous owner bought the sidecar in 2009 and had it fully refurbished by
Charnwood, it has a galvanised shell and is very well built and in excellent
condition for a 53 year old.
I bought this sidecar outfit from a guy who had
mechanically refurbished it after it had been stored since 1996, It is
registered in my name and my plan was to get it completely sorted and use it as
a family vehicle for school runs and family days out/classic events but
unfortunately an old shoulder injury makes it difficult for me to use it and I
must reluctantly sell it.
The previous owner completely serviced it, fitted a
new clutch, rebuilt the gearbox with a new selector fork (1st & 2nd) and
replaced the shifter mechanism, with all new seals, circlips and re-shimmed it.
He installed a Piranha opto-electronic ignition system, new battery, mirrors
& throttle cables, replacement voltage regulator, starter relay and alternator
rotor fitted along with sidecar sprigs, rear shocks and sidecar tyre.
She starts well & runs beautifully,
handles well and is a fun machine to ride.
On getting her, we serviced her and put her through
a full Sidecar MOT, replaced the front tyre with a sidecar specific tyre &
fitted new bars which made the riding position and handling better. As it was
meant for myself and my family, I fitted heated grips and had had the paintwork
professionally refreshed :- Sidecar & mudguards have been painted in the
same BMW Ivory to match the bike & the tank repainted and relined as
The Motorcycle seat recovered and all the sidecar
interior has been re-upholstered in black vinyl by a local company who do
Sunseakers etc., including both Adult & child seats, cross bar, side pads
and new 2 piece tonneau cover.
It is also fitted with a Krauser pannier system,
the frames & rack are good, but the panniers are a little tired having
had some cracks etc repaired.
I have spent a lot of time & money getting her
looking and feeling right and am both reluctant and disappointed to have to
